Reproduction and Restoration work including Restoration Project Management from Design Form
Design Form is proud to be associated with a number of highly prestigious Restoration projects. From restoring an item to its original splendour to reproducing copies to match original fittings.
Our team of highly skilled craftsmen undertake as much of the restoration work by hand using traditional methods, in keeping with the item being restored.
With reproduction work this also applies but more modern methods are also utilised when manufacturing in quantity.
Lighting: This could be a Lantern that needs refurbishing to a Wall Light that needs replacement arms or sconces and driptrays. The photo shows a recent project involved copying a light for a stately home in Staffordshire. The commission was to produce an exact replica from photos and part of the fitting that was left. It was manufactured in Brass and Copper and glazed by slumping glass over a former and finished in keeping with those already in situ.
Ironmongery : Architects and Designers will be very aware of the constraints when working on conservation projects. Metal work in many guises has to be restored wherever possible. Inevitably pieces are lost or beyond repair and reproduction copies are required.
One project for an esteemed building in Birmingham saw the production of a range of Bronze Ironmongery that had been destroyed in a fire. Using old catalogues, photographs and a few remaining pieces a wide range of products was reproduced, helping to restore the building to its former glory.
Marine : The harsh environment at sea can cause many problems to metal work both on the exterior and interior. Restoration can be as simple Repolishing and Laquering /Plating to the manufacture of new fittings on a “Like for Like” basis.
